Consejeros Latinos and health disparity resources available

Our region has experienced substantial growth in the Latino population in the last several years. As one of our first steps in addressing health disparity and cultural competency issues among racial and ethnic minority patients, we would like to help you find resources available to assist this population.

Provider resources
Many professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, offer continuing medical education credits for courses, including communication strategies and health care disparities among racial-ethnic minority patients.

The Office of Minority Health has also created training tools for health care professionals.

If your office would like to receive Asuris materials in Spanish to share with your patients, please contact your provider consultant

Member resources
We are committed to supporting this growing population by offering a variety of programs and resources. This includes implementing programs, such as Consejeros Latinos. See our August 2009 article below for more information.

Consejeros Latinos continue to assist Spanish-speaking members

We introduced our Consejeros Latinos (Latino Concierge) program in 2007 as an effort to engage and educate the Latino community about health care coverage. Our bi-cultural and bilingual liaisons deliver support and assistance to those who need help navigating the health care system due to language and cultural barriers.

Each month, calls to our Consejeros Latinos increase and 99% are resolved within 24 hours. This program is available to all Asuris members from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PT), Monday through Friday.

If you have a patient who may benefit from this service, please encourage them to contact a Consejeros Latinos liaison at:

  • Asuris Embark, Vantage, Motivate, HSA Healthplan 2.0 members: 1 (877) 280-3975
  • All other members: 1 (866) 219-2150
