New bioequivalent option now available for Effexor XR®
Venlafaxine is a bioequivalent option for Effexor XR capsules
- Venlafaxine extended-release tablets are now available at the generic copayment.
- This option is available as a tablet, not a capsule; therefore, prescribers will need to write a new prescription for venlafaxine extended-release tablets.
Information about new and existing prescriptions for Effexor XR:
- Capsules require prior authorization.
- As of March 1, all new and existing prescriptions are covered at the non-preferred/non-formulary copayment.
Venlafaxine extended release tablets:
- Do not require prior authorization
- Are available in the same strengths as Effexor XR capsules and are also available in 225 mg tablet strength
- Are covered by Asuris at a generic copayment, lowering out-of-pocket costs for members
