Renewal rating processes for groups of 1 to 50 being revamped to ensure quoting accuracy
Last year's enactment of SB 6538 defines the "census date" for renewing small groups (1 to 50) as ninety days prior to the effective date of the renewal.
Because our automated system pulls census information at the end of each month, some community-group renewal rates may not have been based upon census information that was pulled on the "90th day" prior to the renewal (not all months are 30-day months). Accordingly, we are changing our system to reflect the 90-day requirement, and ask that you review the following three time-frames to see if any action is needed on your part.
- November-December 2011 Renewals. Our automated system will be based upon the 90-day requirement, so no action is necessary on your part.
- September-October 2011 Renewal Quotes. We will review all renewal quotes that have been issued in order to verify they reflect census changes on the 90th day. We will issue a new renewal quote if a census change results in a lower quote. We will not issue a new renewal quote if such a change would result in a higher quote. Letters will be mailed only to those groups receiving a lower quote.
- January-August 2011 Renewal Rates. If a group believes its renewal rate would be different due to the census date issue, we will go back and re-rate the renewal upon the group's request. Once the renewal has been re-rated, the appropriate rate will apply as of the renewal effective date.
