For group plans, the deductible will no longer apply to brand medications for insulin and diabetic supplies
Effective Oct. 1, 2011, for new groups and upon renewal for existing groups, we'll waive the prescription medication deductible on brand medications for insulin and diabetic supplies. This change, which arose out of discussion with the Office of Insurance Commissioner, addresses a concern regarding benefit designs that may discriminate against those with conditions for which a generic drug is not available, especially diabetes.
Additional information about this change:
-
Self-insured groups are not affected unless the group opts for this coverage.
- Asuris HSA Healthplan 2.0SM plans are not affected.
- Asuris Preferred, Embark, and Vantage Medical Plans, available to 100+ groups, that include customizable Rx deductible amounts. Insulin and diabetic supplies do not apply to any applicable brand formulary and non-formulary deductible unless the deductible applies to both generic and brand medications.
We'll send a mailing that includes a Summary of Changes to groups that previously received documentation for their October renewal.
If you have any questions about this change, please contact your Asuris sales executive.
