Health Trends e-newsletter focuses on sustainability
Embracing sustainability makes sense for health plans because there are strong links between the health of the environment and the health of people. Those links are the foundation of the triple bottom line philosophy, which measures an organization's success by how it meets economic, social and ecological criteria. When it comes to meeting the criteria for social success, employee health and wellness benefits, alternative work arrangements (such as telecommuting) and community involvement are important elements of a successful sustainability program.
More and more organizations are factoring sustainability into decisions about purchasing, investments and even health care coverage. Questions about a health plan's sustainability practices have begun appearing in RFPs. According to a May 2009 Aberdeen Group study on the ROI of Sustainability, companies that have strategic sustainability programs see up to a 10% improvement in cost reductions and a 16% increase in customer retention and sales.
The hallmarks of companies with successful sustainability programs are remarkably consistent. Read the new Health Trends e-newsletter to find out what they are!
