Medigap billing changes
To continue providing members with quality health care coverage and customer service, we're always looking for ways to improve service and reduce costs. To this end, we've implemented a few changes to our billing processes for Medigap members who were enrolled prior to June 2010:
- Surepay mid-month draft dates standardized to 5th of each month: Members who were set up with Surepay for a draft on the 15th or 25th of the month had their draft date changed to the 5th as of March 1.
- Multiple-month billing date changed to March 1: Members who were on multiple-month billing (quarterly, semi-annual or annual) had their billing start date changed to March 1 instead of their original enrollment date to coincide with the Medigap plan's March 1 annual rate renewal date.
The resetting of the billing cycle didn't change benefits or premiums. Members whose Surepay draft date was Feb. 15 or 25 had the withdrawal date changed to March 5, delaying the withdrawal by one-and-a-half to three weeks, depending on the original draft date. We'll send letters to Medigap members who were impacted by the Surepay draft date or multiple-month billing changes.
Those on quarterly, semi-annual or annual billing had their billing cycle synched up to Medigap's March 1, 2011, plan renewal date. This revision eliminates the confusion of a rate change in the middle of a member's billing cycle, meaning no more mid-year adjustments. Any payments associated with the original billing were credited to the member's new billing cycle bill. For example, if they paid annually in August 2010, we sent them a revised bill for March 1, 2011, through March 1, 2012, but took into account what they already paid.
