Asuris response to news release issued by Washington State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler ordering Asuris Northwest Health to issue child-only policies
Asuris remains deeply concerned about the actions taken by Commissioner Kreidler last Friday. His legal position is not supported by Washington statutes, is contrary to his earlier public statements regarding his regulatory authority, and is even inconsistent with the Commissioner's own recently-issued regulations. We will continue to serve Washington's children and their families, thousands of whom still have coverage through Asuris today.
At this time, Asuris is exploring all of its legal and business options, and we will make a decision in the near future as to how we will proceed in a manner that best serves all of our members. Finding a way to maintain fair access to the insurance market for individuals under the age of 19 is a national issue and we will continue to work with state and federal regulators on finding meaningful solutions. In the meantime, we are processing new applications for individuals under the age of 19 according to the guidance issued by the OIC earlier this month.
