Washington's Shared-Work Program offers an alternative to layoffs
Washington's Shared-Work Program provides qualified employers with a practical alternative to layoffs and allows them to retain their skilled workers. The program allows eligible employers to reduce the work hours of full-time employees, while the workers collect partial unemployment benefits. In addition, employers can avoid the expense of recruiting, hiring and training new employees when their business picks up. Participating employees are spared the hardship of full unemployment by realizing more net income than they would had they been fully laid off.
Program eligibility requirements and rules are outlined on the Washington Employment Security Department Web site.
Employers participating in this program must send a copy of the Shared-Work documents to Asuris, since the employer is amending their employee's eligibility requirements. These documents will detail an employee's revised eligibility status, include the dates of the changes and list the names of the employees participating in the program. For more information about our requirements, talk to your Asuris Sales contact.
