Changes planned for Individual members beginning Sept. 1, 2010
Each year, we carefully review our benefits and rates to ensure that we're meeting our members' coverage needs. At the same time, we factor in the rising cost of health care. Prescription medications, hospitalizations, doctors' services and other health care costs continue to rise, and rates reflect these increases.
After careful consideration, we recently filed an average rate increase of 23.7% for our Individual plans. This increase is still being reviewed by Washington State's Office of the Insurance Commissioner, and it may change prior to final approval. We'll be sure to let you know if any changes occur. If approved, this increase will be effective Sept. 1, 2010. Please see our letter to the OIC for more information on how we arrived at this request.
We understand that your clients may have questions about the rate increase, and we want to support you in evaluating their options. We intend to communicate this change to our members beginning in late July. We'll provide more specifics about our member communications in coming weeks.
In the meantime, be assured that as a nonprofit, we remain committed to doing all we can to help hold down health care costs while providing value to our members. Our Individual plans will continue to provide the value members expect from us.
This includes information and tools to help our members better understand and manage their individual health care needs and options. Our benefit plans provide care and disease management support, health coaching, 24-hour nurse advice and behind-the-scenes support to ensure accurate and timely claims processing and payment. In addition, we offer a secure website, myAsuris.com, which provides information on care options, health cost comparisons, advice and articles on health issues, the ability to navigate claims history and locate providers, and a chat room that provides a forum for community discussions regarding health care.
