05/07/2009   Encourage your Asuris clients to make a GlobalFit date for fitness

The Asuris Advantages program offers a number of discounts on health–related products and services. One of those discounts is for GlobalFit, an organization that provides discounted membership rates at any of the participating GlobalFit health clubs.

When times are tight, we're all looking to save. That doesn't need to change for May, which is National Physical Fitness Month. Even in a recession, your clients can afford to get fit and lose weight. Have them try these tips to save money while staying in shape:
  1. Lose some excess baggage. – Want to save hundreds each year? Lose weight. According to the National Center for Policy Analysis, overweight Americans pay an extra $125 in health care costs each year. And obese Americans average $395 in additional annual costs. (Wondering if you qualify as overweight or obese? Check out this fast and easy online calculator.)

  2. Say no to upsizing. – Super–sized fast–food value meals may seem like a bargain, and they are: You get an extra 400 or so calories for about 67¢ more! But according to a 2006 study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, that "value" can cost you an additional $7 over the long run. That's because a heavier body costs more: a few more pennies in gasoline to move it, some change for future calories to maintain it, and more than $6 in medical expenses from the increased risks of diabetes, heart disease and other ailments. And that's just for the extra calories in that one meal!

  3. Be a cheap date. – Dinner at a chain restaurant—appetizer, entrée and a glass of wine for two—can easily run $50, plus tax and tip. Nationwide, the average cost of two movie tickets is about $15. Coffee after can be $3 or $10, depending on what you order. That's $80 for a night on the town. For about that same $80, you could both join a gym. If you go three times a week, that's about 12 dates a month where you're active, social and together. Coordinate your cardio with your favorite shows, and it's also a TV date. Shower at the gym, and you've saved the cost of water and laundering your own towel.
Encourage your clients to make a date with GlobalFit, which offers them and their families the lowest rates at gyms near them. For National Physical Fitness Month, they can start for FREE with GlobalFit's Lifestyle Membership. Or they can save $29 on their Commit or Non–Commit Membership options just by using the code DATE0509 during enrollment.*
