07/19/2007   Legislative changes prompt mailing of riders to Individual members

Later this month, Asuris will mail letters and riders to members enrolled in several Washington Individual products to inform them of changes we’re making to their contracts due to the new state requirements.

Senate Bill 5930, effective July 22, 2007, requires us to alter the definition of "catastrophic plans" in our member contracts and to adjust the minimum deductible and out-of-pocket amounts on those plans.

With the change, deductibles can be no lower than $1,750 and out-of-pocket amounts must be set at a minimum of $3,500 in order for the product to be considered catastrophic under the Revised Code of Washington (RCW).

We’re taking a series of steps over the next several months to comply with newly revised RCW 48.43.005. At this time, we’re mailing riders to members enrolled on the following plans:

  • Asuris PPO $750 deductible plan
  • Asuris ClaritySM plans
  • HSA Qualified Preferred plan

The rider revises the definition of "catastrophic plans" in those contracts; because of their product design, these plans do not need new deductible or out-of-pocket minimums. Members on the above products can expect to receive riders in the coming days. We’ll update other Individual member contracts in the fall as needed to comply with all the Washington mandates.
