Focus 2007: Health and Wellness
Information is a big part of our goal to give members the tools they need to take charge of their health care decisions. In 2006 we focused on information and tools that foster enhanced health and wellness, culminating in the launch of Asuris WellspringSM, a suite of programs designed to equip health-minded employers with the resources they need to encourage and reward employees who engage in healthy lifestyle activities.
The programs and philosophies behind Wellspring are immediately relevant to our customers. While about 80-90% of most group members are relatively healthy at any given time, the other 10-20% may be facing minor or severe health challenges. Those individuals generate a significant percentage of a group’s overall claims costs. And only 45% of members with chronic conditions receive evidence-based care 1 (including proper self-care steps, medication management, and recommended screenings).
That’s why in 2007, our focus is on strengthening our internally administered core care management programs and expanding the number of members who can take advantage of the resources those programs offer. These programs include:
Each program is condition-specific, so whether a member is pregnant, facing a chronic condition or a more serious illness or injury, our core care management programs offer support to the members who need it most. And our programs are more integrated than ever among our medical, behavioral health and pharmacy staff. This integration reduces the overlap and duplication that can happen when multiple programs run independently. The end result: Our members get the support and information they need when they need it most.
In that spirit, effective immediately, we are making our internally administered Asuris Disease Management program available to every insured or retrospectively funded group and most Individual members—with no impact to the administration fee. We are also offering this program to self-funded groups at an additional charge at their next renewal.
The Asuris Disease Management program identifies and manages members with diabetes, coronary artery disease (CAD), congestive heart failure (CHF), asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), depression and anxiety. It’s our hope that members will use this resource to enhance their lives, maximize their wellness and get increasingly more value out of their health care dollars.
