10/23/2006 Pre-authorization required on brand-name prescription proton pump inhibitors starting Nov. 1

Starting Nov. 1, 2006, new prescriptions for brand-name prescription proton pump inhibitors will need prior authorization. Also, those prescriptions can be authorized only if generic omeprazole (Prilosec®) and Prilosec OTC™ are not treatment options. Prior authorization will not be necessary for members who were using a brand-name proton pump inhibitor before Nov. 1, 2006.
